Crypto lender Nexo has recently been awarded ISO 27017 and ISO 27018 certifications, a testament to its commitment to data protection and cloud privacy.
These certifications, granted by RINA, build on Nexo’s existing ISO 27001 standards, underscoring the digital asset institution’s dedication to security in an era where such measures are increasingly critical.
In 2023, the crypto sector saw a 50% decrease in losses from security incidents, yet the total loss amounted to $1.7 billion, highlighting the importance of stringent security standards.
The synergy of ISO 27001, ISO 27017, and ISO 27018 marks a significant milestone for Nexo. The ISO 27001 certification, held since 2019, reflects Nexo’s robust Information Security Management Systems. The addition of ISO 27017 extends these principles to the cloud, a domain essential to the crypto ecosystem, ensuring protection against cloud computing threats. ISO 27018, focusing on privacy, strengthens Nexo’s handling of personally identifiable information in the cloud, emphasizing consent, data minimization, and rigorous third-party management.
Milan Velev, Nexo’s Chief Security Officer, stated, “Nexo’s integration of ISO standards for information security and privacy signifies a major step forward in our journey to set new benchmarks in digital finance.”
Kalin Panev, Country Manager of RINA, echoed this sentiment, noting the partnership’s role in advancing security and data protection in fintech.
“We are pleased to certify Nexo with the ISO 27017 and ISO 27018 standards. This partnership underlines RINA commitment to promoting advanced security measures and data protection in the innovative financial technology sector,” said Kalin Panev, Country Manager of RINA.
These ISO certifications complement Nexo’s previous achievements, including the SOC 2 Type 2 audit and CSA STAR Level 1 Certification, as the company continues to lead in security and transparency within the digital assets space.
