Kiln, P2P.org, Everstake, Blockdaemon, Infstones, Luganodes, and Ebunker are the first to deploy OptimumP2P, a new data propagation network for faster, more reliable blockchain performance
Optimum, the first high-performance memory layer designed to scale any blockchain, announced today that seven of the top Ethereum validators and node operators—Kiln, P2P.org, Everstake, Blockdaemon, Infstones, Luganodes, and Ebunker—have partnered to test and deploy its first product to market: OptimumP2P, a next-generation data propagation network. Initial testing focuses on improving block propagation for Ethereum, with broader expansion planned for other Layer 1s.
Together, these validators and node operators represent 15% of Ethereum’s total stake:
“Partnering with leading validators signals strong confidence in OptimumP2P’s architecture and positions it as a key upgrade embraced by the operators securing Ethereum’s core infrastructure,” said Muriel Médard, Optimum co-founder.
Why Ethereum Needs a Networking Upgrade
While Ethereum’s roadmap prioritizes L1 scaling, the peer-to-peer (P2P) layer has become a critical bottleneck. In decentralized networks, transactions enter the mempool before being packaged into blocks, which must then be broadcast to all nodes—making performance highly dependent on propagation speed and efficiency. Ethereum still relies on libp2p/Gossipsub, which creates significant bandwidth overhead from redundant message duplication, limiting throughput ( ~15–30 TPS), increasing latency, impacting validator performance and overall network efficiency.
“Improving data propagation is just as important as execution or consensus when it comes to scaling Ethereum,” said Thomas de Phuoc, COO and Co-founder at Kiln. “OptimumP2P addresses this often-overlooked bottleneck, making propagation faster and more consistent across the network. We look forward to continuing our implementation and exploring how it can further optimize validator performance at scale.”
OptimumP2P is a fast data propagation network that functions like a memory bus for blockchains, enabling faster, more efficient movement of network data. It is powered by Random Linear Network Coding (RLNC), a data encoding breakthrough invented at MIT, that splits data into coded packets, allowing receiving nodes to optimally reconstruct the full message. This method makes block propagation faster, more reliable, and more bandwidth-efficient.—OptimumP2P delivers performance benefits across the stack:
- Layer 1s handle more transactions while using less network bandwidth;
- Validators get data faster and more consistently, leading to better reliability and rewards;
- Users enjoy lower gas fees and more responsive dApp experiences
Alex Loktev, CRO at P2P.org added: “At P2P.org, we’ve built our reputation on being first to deploy cutting-edge infrastructure that delivers superior performance for our clients. OptimumP2P represents exactly the kind of foundational advancement we look for: MIT-developed technology that can fundamentally improve how validators operate. We’re excited to be among the pioneering operators testing this next-generation networking layer, because staying at the forefront of blockchain infrastructure innovation is core to how we deliver the best possible staking experience.”
Early Testnet Shows Promising Results
Validators connect via a simple API that handles RLNC encoding and decoding. OptimumP2P complements Gossipsub, adding speed without breaking compatibility. Initial A/B testing shows major performance gains over libp2p, expected to increase as testnet evolves:
- 10x lower latency under high-traffic conditions
- Stable performance with up to 10MB messages (vs. Gossipsub failing at high arrival rates at 4MB)
- Zero message loss, even under stress scenarios.
The team will continue onboarding node operators as OptimumP2P prepares to roll out on Ethereum’s Hoodi testnet this summer.
Built For Any Blockchain
“By starting with Ethereum, we’re proving that OptimumP2P can address real scaling constraints for one of the most adopted smart contract networks in the world. But this is just the beginning—we’re building infrastructure that any high-throughput network can benefit from”, said Kishori Konwar, co-founder of Optimum.
OptimumP2P is chain-agnostic, supporting gossiping, multicast, and custom data propagation methods across EVM, SVM, MoveVM, and more. As a high-speed memory layer, it complements execution and consensus with faster, more optimized data flow.
