Pilot demonstrates Stablecoin yield can support school connectivity through Stablecoin for impact and Giga

London, United Kingdom, March 23rd, 2026, Chainwire

A pilot deployment of Stablecoin for Impact (SFI) has been launched to demonstrate how yield generated from stablecoins can support school internet connectivity through Giga, the global school connectivity initiative led by UNICEF and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The solution is developed by blockchain infrastructure company Launchnodes and enables donors to allocate a portion of yield generated from stablecoins supplied to decentralised lending markets, on Aave, toward social initiatives.

The pilot includes participation from the GSR Foundation, acting as the inaugural institutional donor. Yield generated from the Foundation’s stablecoin deposits is being directed to support connectivity delivered through Giga.

The Giga listing is now live on the Stablecoin for Impact platform, enabling additional donors to deploy stablecoins and allocate a share of generated yield toward school connectivity.

Jaydeep Korde, CEO of Launchnodes, said: “Using widely adopted stablecoins including USDC and USDT together with lending markets like Aave makes it possible to create a new model for philanthropic funding.

With the GSR Foundation supporting the first deployment, Stablecoin for Impact is now available to financial institutions, corporates and CSR teams who want to support initiatives like school connectivity while retaining ownership of their capital.”

James Newell, Executive Director of the GSR Foundation, said: “This pilot allows us to explore how digital asset yield can support real-world social initiatives while preserving capital. It represents an opportunity to test new funding approaches for projects such as school connectivity.”

Gerben Kijne, Blockchain Product Lead at Giga, said: “Connecting schools to the internet helps ensure that every young person can access information, opportunity and choice. Pilots like this help explore how innovative financing mechanisms can complement existing efforts to connect schools worldwide.”

The initiative is being conducted as a time-bound pilot, with an evaluation checkpoint to assess operational performance, transparency of funding flows, and the effectiveness of the mechanism in supporting connectivity outcomes.

Roles in the Pilot

  • Launchnodes built and operates the Stablecoin for Impact platform infrastructure.
  • GSR Foundation is the donor participating in the pilot.
  • Giga, a joint initiative of UNICEF and ITU, is the beneficiary initiative supporting school connectivity.

About Stablecoin for Impact (SFI)

Built by Launchnodes, Stablecoin for Impact (SFI) is a decentralised philanthropic platform that turns stablecoins into active capital for social good using Aave supply yield. SFI is a spin off of the successful Lido Impact Staking initiative. It pioneered this perpetual giving model using ETH staking rewards, whilst SFI adapts the same strategy for stablecoins specifically USDC, USDT and DAI by utilising Aave’s lending markets. This creates sustainable, perpetual funding streams for NGOs without requiring donors to spend their principal.

“We built Stablecoin for Impact because we saw institutions sitting on hundreds of millions in stablecoins earning minimal or zero yield,” said Andrei Druta, Chief of Staff at Launchnodes. “SFI transforms that dormant capital to funding school connectivity, and opportunity – without requiring anyone to spend a single dollar of principal. This is what crypto was meant to do: create new financial infrastructure that benefits Everyone.”
