UN Security Council to convene emergency meeting over US strikes on Venezuela on Monday

Global tensions rise as UN debates international law and sovereignty amid US actions in Venezuela.

The United Nations Security Council is set to hold an emergency meeting on Monday to address US military operations in Venezuela, according to AP reporter Farnoush Amiri via X.

The session follows recent US strikes in Venezuela that resulted in the capture of President Nicolás Maduro. President Donald Trump has stated that the US will temporarily control Venezuela following the ouster of its leader.

Venezuela’s government has denounced the military action as a violation of international norms, alleging the operations aim at resource seizure and regime change. The country has mobilized its national defense and called for international intervention.

Colombia has joined calls for an emergency UN session to promote de-escalation. The Security Council recently held an urgent open briefing on heightened US-Venezuela conflicts involving US military presence in the Caribbean.
