Arbitrum introduces cheaper gas fees in its ‘Phase 2’
The Atlas upgrade and the full implementation of blobs gave a competitive boost to Arbitrum, although not enough to boast the cheapest fees.

Ethereum’s layer-2 (L2) Arbitrum has fully integrated with the Dencun upgrade with its ArbOS ‘Atlas’, which reduces gas fees for the L2. In an announcement made in a Mar. 19 X (formerly Twitter) post, they stated that the fee floor and the average fees are now lower.
The Atlas comes on top of Arbitrum’s integration with ‘blobs’, spaces reserved in each Ethereum block to receive L2 data introduced by the Dencun upgrade on Mar. 13. This represents ‘Phase 2’ for Arbitrum, which is aimed at improving affordability and making the network “capable of handling a greater amount of economic activity at a lower average price”, according to the announcement.
“Future improvements, such as Stylus, will also add to this efficiency and make even more new use cases possible,” the publication added.
Although Arbitrum’s $0,011 average fees are now significantly cheaper when compared to the previous $0,70 average, the blockchain infrastructure is still not in the lead in the ‘L2 race’. According to data aggregator GasFees.io, Base and Optimism still offer more competitive fees to their users.
Nevertheless, the full support for the Dencun upgrade and the introduction of Phase 2 was enough to put Arbitrum in front of networks like Zora, zkSync, and Scroll when it comes to fee prices.
