Arsenal accelerates pursuit of Morgan Rogers after locking down Christos Tzolis deal
The Gunners are spending big this summer, with a £34 million winger already secured and a potentially nine-figure move for Aston Villa's breakout star now gathering pace.
After finalizing a deal worth approximately £34 million for Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis, the Gunners are now accelerating their pursuit of Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers, widely considered their top transfer target this window.
The Tzolis deal sets the table
The Tzolis transfer, agreed at around £34 million (€40 million), fills an immediate gap left by Leandro Trossard’s departure to Besiktas. The 24-year-old Greece international is technically making a return to English football, having previously played for Norwich City before his move to Belgium.
Rogers: from £8 million bargain to nine-figure target
Morgan Rogers joined Aston Villa from Middlesbrough in February 2024 for £8 million. Today, speculated transfer fees for the 23-year-old range between £70 million and £130 million, with market valuations placing him around the €90 million mark.
Rogers earned that valuation after winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award in 2025.
Villa locked him down through 2031, giving them significant leverage in any negotiation. Personal terms for a potential five-year deal are reportedly close to being agreed, suggesting the player’s side of things is largely sorted. The remaining question is whether Arsenal and Villa can find a number that works for both.
Arteta’s blueprint comes into focus
Tzolis is 24. Rogers is 23. Both are attacking players. The departure of Trossard to Besiktas underscores the generational refresh happening at the Emirates.
What this means for the market
The Rogers deal, if it gets done at the figures being discussed, would rank among the most expensive domestic transfers in Premier League history.
For Aston Villa, a massive capital gain on Rogers can create spending headroom for multiple replacements under the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability rules.
Arsenal have already spent £34 million on Tzolis and are prepared to potentially spend £70 million or more on Rogers, all in a single window.
