Aston Villa targets Pervis Estupiñán in potential €20M deal, and here’s why it matters for markets
The Premier League club's pursuit of the Ecuadorian defender highlights how European football's transfer economics increasingly resemble crypto's speculative cycles
Aston Villa is in early-stage talks to sign Ecuadorian left-back Pervis Estupiñán from AC Milan, with the Italian club reportedly willing to entertain offers around the €20 million mark. No formal bid has been submitted yet, but initial contacts between the clubs are underway as the summer transfer window heats up.
The deal on the table
Estupiñán, 28, only joined Milan from Brighton in July 2025 for a fee estimated between €17 million and €19 million. The fact that Milan is already open to moving him on for roughly €20 million, just one year later, tells you something about the club’s internal dynamics.
Milan’s willingness to sell suggests broader squad restructuring, possibly under new management looking to reshape the roster. Estupiñán has been a regular starter in Serie A and recently featured in Ecuador’s 2026 World Cup campaign, so this isn’t a case of a player falling out of favor on the pitch.
His contract runs through 2030, which normally would give Milan significant leverage in negotiations. But when a club is “listening to offers” on a player with four years left on his deal, the leverage shifts. Aston Villa knows this.
The asking price of €20 million represents only a modest markup on what Milan paid Brighton. Estupiñán also made history as the first Ecuadorian to play for AC Milan following his arrival in July 2025.
