Axelar has officially launched the Mobius Development Stack (MDS), a platform designed to offer customizable, self-service interoperability across various blockchains, on its mainnet. Prominent layer 1 blockchains like Sui, Stellar, XRP Ledger as well as security providers EigenLayer and OpenZeppelin will adopt the MDS to build a truly open and connected web3 ecosystem.

As a platform for an omnichain world, MDS helps break down the barriers between different blockchains. Developers can create applications that work across multiple networks and tailor MDS to their specific needs. The platform, which the team describes as the first to offer a holistic approach to interoperability, allows for customizable, self-service integration with any system, on-chain or off-chain.

MDS’ approach can lead to a better user experience and encourage more innovation, as people can interact with applications on different blockchains without having to switch between them. The platform targets redefining user and data interaction across the web3, promising one connection with limitless possibilities.

“With MDS, we’re empowering developers to build decentralized applications that compose resources, logic, value, and network effects freely across a truly global internet landscape,” Georgios Vlachos, director at the Axelar Foundation and co-founder of the Axelar protocol, said.

Axelar’s MDS will support major layer 1 blockchains through the Interchain Amplifier. This is one of the key features of the MDS that enables permissionless, dynamic, and customizable integrations with various consensus approaches.

“Axelar MDS will give developers the tools to compose these innovations with technology and communities across web3,” Adeniyi Abiodun, co-founder and Chief Product Officer at Mysten Labs, the developer of the Sui Network, commented on the launch.

In addition to the Interchain Amplifier, Axelar’s MDS introduces the Interchain Token Service (ITS). This feature will facilitate rapid tokenization of assets, extending beyond traditional blockchain bridges to include real-world assets, thus broadening the scope for decentralized applications and financial services.

According to Jasmine Cooper, head of product at RippleX, seamless interoperability between different blockchains is essential for fully realizing the potential of web3. She believes XRP Ledger’s integration with MDS can help RippleX facilitate cross-chain asset mobility and protocol access, providing greater value to both users and developers.

The platform also integrates cutting-edge security features from Babylon and EigenLayer, enhancing cross-chain interactions with Bitcoin- and Ethereum-level security.

“Integration with Axelar Mobius Development Stack opens a universe of restaking opportunities in new use cases that were inaccessible to Eigen previously,” said Luke Hajdukiewicz, EigenLayer Head of AVS BD. “Axelar and EigenLayer are reaching toward the same vision: a horizontally scalable web3 in which developers compose freely across user networks and resources.”
