Dragon Ranger Gaming takes on XLG at VALORANT Masters London with bilingual comms
China's third seed navigated a language barrier and a tough historical matchup during the Swiss Stage of Masters London 2026.
Dragon Ranger Gaming showed up to VALORANT Masters London 2026 with a communication strategy almost as complex as their in-game tactics: Chinese-English comms, deployed live against Xi Lai Gaming in the Swiss Stage.
The match pitted two Chinese-region squads against each other on one of the biggest stages in competitive VALORANT. DRG entered the tournament as China’s third seed, while XLG came in carrying a historical edge in head-to-head matchups between the two organizations.
Two Chinese teams, one global stage
VALORANT Masters London 2026 runs from June 6 to June 21, bringing together the best teams from every major region. The Swiss Stage format means every match matters.
DRG qualified for the event by finishing third in VCT China Stage 1. DRG suffered a 1-2 defeat to EDward Gaming and a 1-3 loss to XLG in prior rounds of regional play.
XLG, previously known as X-Ray Light Gaming, was founded in 2023 and has quickly established itself as one of China’s most dangerous rosters. The organization fields players like WsLeo, Lysoar, and NoMan, and has accumulated approximately $134,000 in total earnings from VALORANT events.
The head-to-head history between these two favors XLG pretty clearly. Prior matchups show XLG leading the series roughly 4-2 or 3-2, depending on the specific records referenced.
The bilingual comms wrinkle
DRG used Chinese-English comms during their match against XLG. Mixed-language communication has become fairly customary for Chinese esports organizations competing outside their home region. The approach requires players to internalize key callouts and tactical terminology in English while still defaulting to their native language for the rapid-fire decision-making that wins rounds.
What this means for the competitive landscape
DRG itself has been around since 2016 as an esports organization, originally building its reputation in Honor of Kings before expanding into VALORANT.
