FC Köln eyes Manchester City academy star Reigan Heskey as fan token clubs keep betting on young talent
The German club's pursuit of an 18-year-old England youth international highlights how European football's transfer market increasingly intersects with the tokenized sports economy.
1. FC Köln is in negotiations to sign Reigan Heskey, the 18-year-old England youth international, after his contract situation at Manchester City reached an impasse. The German club is exploring both loan and permanent transfer options for the winger who has spent a decade in City’s academy system.
Heskey, who stands 6’0″ and wears squad number 92, joined Manchester City’s academy at the age of eight. He’s progressed through every youth level the club offers, eventually representing the U21 side and scoring in the FA Youth Cup.
His scholarship agreement at City expires on June 30, 2026. But professional contract talks stalled, opening a window for other clubs to swoop in.
Köln appear to be leading that charge. The German club, currently navigating life in Germany’s second division after relegation from the Bundesliga, sees Heskey as the kind of high-upside young talent that could aid their push back to the top flight.
Several lower-league and overseas clubs have also expressed interest.
