Google engineer charged with insider trading on Polymarket after allegedly netting $1.2M
Michele Spagnuolo faces commodities fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering charges for allegedly using confidential Google search data to place winning bets on the prediction market.
Federal authorities have accused Google software engineer Michele Spagnuolo of using confidential company information to earn more than $1.2 million through trades on Polymarket, according to a criminal complaint unsealed Wednesday.
Investigators allege that Spagnuolo, who used the Polymarket account “AlphaRaccoon,” accessed nonpublic Google data through internal tools and used that information to place bets tied to company developments. The complaint alleges he risked approximately $2.75 million on related markets between October and December 2025.
Spagnuolo, an Italian citizen residing in Switzerland, has been charged with commodities fraud, wire fraud, and money laundering. Prosecutors and the FBI said the case highlights ongoing efforts to police the misuse of confidential corporate information in prediction and financial markets.
