Inter signs Ivan Provedel from Lazio for €3M as backup goalkeeper
The Nerazzurri lock in experienced cover behind Josep Martinez after Yann Sommer's departure, with the 32-year-old accepting a pay cut to make the move happen.
Inter Milan have agreed to sign goalkeeper Ivan Provedel from Lazio for a fee of approximately €3 million, slotting the 32-year-old into the backup role behind first-choice keeper Josep Martinez. The deal includes a three-year contract with an option for a fourth year, and Provedel has accepted a salary reduction to facilitate the transfer.
The deal structure
Provedel will earn approximately €1.5 million annually at Inter, a step down from the roughly €2 million he was pulling in at Lazio. The transfer fee falls within a range of €2-4 million, with €3 million being the widely cited figure.
Lazio are letting Provedel leave despite his contract running through 2027. Negotiations moved quickly, with agent discussions and personal terms reportedly settled by around June 10, 2026, with fee negotiations between the two clubs running in parallel.
Why Inter needed this signing
The vacancy opened up when Yann Sommer departed as a free agent. Born on March 17, 1994, Provedel spent time at Spezia before joining Lazio in 2022, building a reputation as a dependable shot-stopper.
What this means for all parties involved
For Provedel, the move represents a trade-off. Less money, but he joins a club coming off recent Serie A success. That fourth-year option means if things go well, he could be at the San Siro into his mid-thirties.
For Lazio, getting €3 million for a player entering the final stretch of his contract frees up space in the squad and on the wage bill to pursue their own goalkeeping targets ahead of the new season.
