Jordan’s Mohammad Abualnadi set for World Cup debut in 2026

The Kansas-born center-back will represent Jordan in the nation's first-ever World Cup finals appearance, highlighting the growing role of diaspora talent in international football.

A 25-year-old center-back born in Overland Park, Kansas, is about to step onto the biggest stage in world football. Mohammad Abualnadi will suit up for Jordan at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a tournament that represents the country’s first-ever appearance in the finals.

Jordan finally broke through during the AFC qualifying rounds on June 5, 2025. And Abualnadi, a product of American youth development with Jordanian roots, is emblematic of how the team got there.

From the Kansas suburbs to a World Cup roster

Born on February 8, 2001, he grew up in the Kansas City metro area and developed through the Sporting Kansas City academy. He then took the college route, playing at both Notre Dame and Pittsburgh before turning professional. His club career has included stints with Sporting KC II and Al-Qasim, preceding his current home at Selangor FC in the Malaysia Super League, where he landed in September 2024 on a contract running through May 2026.

He represented Jordan at both the U19 and U23 levels before earning his first senior cap in 2024. As of early 2026, he has accumulated 14 caps for the senior national team.

Jordan’s diaspora strategy comes to fruition

Abualnadi’s story is not an accident. It’s the result of a deliberate strategy by Jordan’s football association to identify and recruit talented players from the Jordanian diaspora, particularly those developing in stronger footballing ecosystems like the United States. The squad heading to the 2026 tournament features a mix of experienced domestic-league players and diaspora recruits.
