Noussair Mazraoui transfer rumors highlight the managerial merry-go-round reshaping European football spending
AC Milan's interest in the Manchester United defender underscores how coaching changes create ripple effects across transfer markets worth billions
Noussair Mazraoui, Manchester United’s right-back who cost roughly £12 million when he arrived from Bayern Munich in August 2024, is now the subject of transfer speculation linking him to AC Milan. The reason is simple: his former boss Ruben Amorim landed there after being sacked by United on January 5, 2026, reportedly walking away with a compensation package around £15 million.
Amorim managed Mazraoui during his stint at Old Trafford, which began in late 2024 after Erik ten Hag’s departure. The Moroccan defender had already followed Ten Hag from Ajax to Bayern Munich in 2022, then to Manchester United in 2024. If the Milan link materializes, it would mark the third time Mazraoui followed a former manager to a new club.
Italian journalist Matte Moretto reported on July 12, 2026, that there are currently “no talks” between Manchester United and AC Milan regarding a Mazraoui transfer. The player himself stated on June 27, 2026, that he is happy at United and has no plans to leave. Fellow right-back Diogo Dalot has expressed similar sentiments about staying put this summer.
Mazraoui made his United debut just three days after signing, on August 16, 2024, in a 1-0 Premier League victory over Fulham. His consistent performances across multiple managerial regimes suggest he’s the kind of reliable asset that clubs don’t let go cheaply, regardless of what speculation emerges.
