Tvoy molodoy leads FURIA to 2-0 pool at IEM Cologne Major
The 21-year-old Kazakh AWPer has been a revelation since joining the Brazilian roster, pushing FURIA into prime position at CS2's biggest stage
FURIA are sitting pretty at 2-0 in Stage 3 of the IEM Cologne Major 2026, and they have a 21-year-old sniper from Kazakhstan to thank for it. Danil “molodoy” Golubenko, who joined the Brazilian organization just over a year ago, has been the difference-maker in FURIA’s dominant opening to the tournament’s most critical phase.
The IEM Cologne Major, running from June 2 through June 21 with a $1.25 million prize pool, is the kind of event where careers are made.
A Kazakh AWPer on a Brazilian squad walks into Cologne
Molodoy signed with FURIA on April 11, 2025, replacing Marcelo “chelo” Cespedes in the AWPer role. A young Kazakh player slotting into a historically Brazilian-core roster isn’t exactly a conventional roster decision.
Stage 3 of the IEM Cologne Major uses a Swiss-system format, meaning teams play best-of-three matches and need to accumulate wins to advance. Only the top eight teams make it through to the playoffs. Starting 2-0 puts FURIA in a commanding position. They now need just one more series win to lock in a playoff spot, while a loss would still leave them with multiple chances to qualify.
Why molodoy matters beyond the scoreboard
The AWP is the game’s most expensive and most powerful weapon, a one-shot-kill sniper rifle that costs $4,750 in-game currency. Teams build their economy and their strategy around giving their AWPer the best possible opportunities.
At 21 years old, born January 10, 2005, molodoy is entering what many consider the prime performance window for competitive FPS players.
What this means for the rest of the tournament
In the Swiss system, teams in the 2-0 pool face each other, meaning FURIA’s next opponent will also be undefeated through two rounds. Winning that next match would send FURIA directly to the playoff stage, where the $1.25 million prize pool and Major championship are on the line. Losing would drop them to the 2-1 pool, still alive but suddenly facing elimination-bracket pressure in subsequent rounds.
The tournament runs through June 21, and the playoff bracket will be set once the Swiss stage concludes.
