Newcastle United signs goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Stade de Reims in £24M deal
The 20-year-old French keeper becomes Newcastle's first summer signing, while the club's crypto partnership with BYDFi lurks in the background.
Newcastle United has completed the signing of goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Stade de Reims for approximately £24 million, making the 20-year-old Frenchman the club’s first acquisition of the summer 2026 transfer window.
Jaouen underwent a medical ahead of finalizing the move from the Ligue 2 side to the Premier League. The fee represents a significant premium over his Transfermarkt valuation of €12 million.
Who is Ewen Jaouen?
Born on December 29, 2005, Jaouen developed through the Reims youth and reserve team system before testing himself on loan. He spent time at both Rodez AF and USL Dunkerque before returning to Reims.
He has represented France at the U21 level.
Newcastle’s broader strategy and the crypto connection
Under its current ownership group, Newcastle has pursued a dual approach: big-money signings to compete immediately, paired with strategic investments in younger talent for long-term squad sustainability. Jaouen fits squarely into the second category.
Newcastle has a multi-year partnership with crypto exchange BYDFi, announced in August 2025, aimed at fan engagement through digital assets.
On the selling side, Stade de Reims has partnered with Royaltiz, a platform that lets fans invest in athletes’ careers through tokenized assets. While Jaouen’s transfer doesn’t involve any crypto tokens directly, no tokens moved, no prices spiked, and no on-chain activity has been linked to this particular deal.
