OpenAI launched its first certification courses, marking a move into formal education and skills training centered on the practical use of artificial intelligence.

The certification program is designed to help individuals build real-world proficiency with OpenAI’s models and tools, responding to growing demand for AI literacy across industries.

OpenAI introduced two initial courses as part of the rollout. AI Foundations will launch through pilot programs inside ChatGPT in partnership with select employers and public service organizations. A second course, ChatGPT Foundations for Teachers, is available on Coursera and focuses on helping educators apply AI tools in classroom settings.

The courses emphasize hands-on, practical applications rather than theoretical instruction. OpenAI stated that the initiative supports its broader goal of expanding economic opportunities and advancing its plan to certify 10 million Americans by 2030.
