Highly-rated Manchester United goalkeeper Darlington Osuchukwu leaves club amid interest from top European teams
The 16-year-old Spanish-Nigerian goalkeeper departs Old Trafford without making his U18 debut, with a return to Spain looking likely
Darlington Osuchukwu, one of the most closely watched young goalkeepers in European football, is leaving Manchester United this summer. The 16-year-old’s departure comes with several top European clubs circling, most notably Athletic Club in Spain.
Born on November 18, 2009, in Murcia, Spain, Osuchukwu was signed by Manchester United from Spanish youth club Gazte Berriak. The move brought him to England at age 13.
His performances in United’s youth setup earned him recognition beyond the club. Spain’s national youth program came calling, and Osuchukwu received a call-up to the country’s U17 squad. He never broke through to United’s U18 team.
Interest from Athletic Club was reported as far back as November 2025. The Bilbao-based club has long been known for its commitment to developing young talent, particularly players with roots in the Basque region and broader Spanish football culture.
The financial implications are modest at this stage. Osuchukwu is 16, so any transfer or compensation fee would be relatively small compared to senior player moves.
