Web3 gaming-focused blockchain Ronin has officially partnered with Gravity to launch “Ragnarok: Monster World.” This strategic alliance introduces the notorious Ragnarok Online universe into the burgeoning world of blockchain gaming. This collaboration marks the first instance of a Web2 gaming IP transitioning onto the Ronin network, following Pixels’ successful migration.
“Ragnarok holds a special place in the hearts of our core audience in South East Asia, including many of our own team members who grew up as avid fans,” commented Sky Mavis CEO and co-founder, Trung Nguyen. “We are committed to bringing IP that will transcend gaming culture through our bleeding edge technology and can’t wait to see the Ronin Effect on Monster World.”
ZERO X AND, a Web3 development company and game studio, is at the helm of Ragnarok: Monster World’s development. The studio is part of Google Cloud’s Startup Program and is staffed by industry veterans with experience in popular Web2 games. Ragnarok: Monster World is set to launch on Ronin in Q3 2024 and will feature a blend of monster collecting and tower defense gameplay.
Players will be able to tame Ragmons, train them, and compete for rewards in PvP battles, with PvE and GvG features planned for future updates.
“We’re thrilled to collaborate with the team behind Axie Infinity, who has spearheaded a new paradigm for P2E and NFTs. I’ve been following the potential of Ronin for some time now and have thoroughly enjoyed playing Axie Infinity games,” said Seokjun Kim, Founder of ZERO X AND. “By leveraging the skills of our team members experienced in Web2 alongside SkyMavis’ Web3 expertise, we aim to cultivate a stronger gaming and blockchain community.”
Ragnarok began as a Manwha comic book series before the game was developed by the South Korean publisher Gravity, resulting in over 167 million downloads globally. The IP also permeated other forms of media, including animated series and mobile games, broadening its cultural impact.
Since its inception in 2021, Ronin has amassed approximately 17.6 million total wallet addresses and is preparing for further scalability with its upcoming zkEVM launch. The partnership with Sky Mavis aims to enhance the success of games through its Web3 Publishing Stack and its dedicated community.
