VCT CN reveals details for 2027 circuit including multiple events

Riot Games overhauls its VALORANT esports structure in China with a visitor team model, open qualifiers, and a packed tournament calendar

Riot Games is blowing up the playbook for competitive VALORANT in China. The VCT CN 2027 circuit will feature a completely revamped structure built around tournaments rather than a traditional league format, incorporating rivalries that span from domestic Chinese competition to broader Asian and international stages.

The shift is part of a larger global overhaul of the VALORANT Champions Tour, which will move to an all-tournament model featuring over 20 events annually across more than 16 cities worldwide.

How the new VCT CN structure works

China’s competitive VALORANT scene will operate under what Riot is calling a “Visitor Team Model.” This is distinct from how other regions will function within the broader 14-region framework.

The setup includes eight directly partnered teams that form the backbone of the circuit. On top of that, two visitor team slots and open qualifiers inject fresh blood into every competition cycle.

The calendar includes regional kickoff events that feed into territory cups, with LAN events punctuating the schedule throughout the year. These kickoff tournaments serve as qualification pathways for the marquee international events: Masters and Champions.

The global context

VCT CN doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Riot is rolling out this tournament-first philosophy across all 14 competitive regions simultaneously, replacing the league-centric model that defined VALORANT esports since its inception.

The total prize pool across the VCT ecosystem exceeds $6 million per year. Riot is also funding travel costs for teams participating in global events.

A new two-year partnership cycle begins in 2027. Partner teams receive base payments, performance-based bonuses, and revenue from promotional in-game content.

High-profile host cities are part of the pitch too, with events planned for locations like Santiago, London, and Shanghai.
