Buterin resumed ETH selling over the weekend after a two-week hiatus and brought his total disposals this year to nearly 9,000 ETH, valued at around $18 million.
The recent sales occurred alongside Ether’s price drop. The second-largest crypto fell from $1,957 to $1,856 on Sunday evening as markets responded to Trump’s move to raise the global tariff from 10% to 15%. Trump also indicated that further tariffs were planned to support his trade agenda.
Despite the liquidation, Buterin still holds over 224,000 ETH, a stake valued at roughly $429 million at current market prices. This makes him one of the largest known individual holders of the asset.
In a January statement, the creator of Ethereum said he withdrew 16,384 ETH to fund projects that advance open, secure, and verifiable software and hardware, supporting privacy, self-sovereignty, and long-term resilience for Ethereum users and the ecosystem.
