Apple to raise prices as memory chip costs soar, Cook says
Tim Cook calls the spike in memory chip demand a 'hundred-year flood' as analysts estimate iPhone Pro prices could jump $270
Apple plans to pass on at least some of the rising costs of memory and storage chips to consumers, CEO Tim Cook said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.
Cook explained the company has attempted to absorb higher component costs but described the current environment as unsustainable. AI-driven demand for memory and storage components has sharply reduced supply available for consumer devices, pushing prices sharply higher.
Cook did not disclose the timing or scale of any price increases, nor identify the affected devices.
The company faces mounting pressure as technology giants invest heavily in AI infrastructure, fueling demand for DRAM and NAND chips used in data centers.
Analysts estimate the trend could raise costs across smartphones, PCs and other electronics, while Apple is also contending with growing memory requirements for its own AI features.
