Besiktas and Tottenham enquire about PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier

Besiktas and Tottenham enquire about PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier

The French keeper is reportedly open to leaving Paris after losing his starting spot to Matvey Safonov.

Lucas Chevalier went from being one of France’s most exciting young goalkeepers to warming the bench at Paris Saint-Germain in less than a year. Now two clubs from very different corners of European football want to change that.

Besiktas and Tottenham Hotspur have both enquired about the 24-year-old, according to L’Équipe. The interest comes as Chevalier finds himself stuck behind Matvey Safonov in PSG’s pecking order, a situation that apparently doesn’t sit well with a player who joined the club expecting to be the guy between the posts.

From Lille star to PSG backup

PSG signed Chevalier from Lille in August 2025 for a reported base fee of €40 million plus bonuses. At the time, it looked like a statement signing. Here was a homegrown French talent, born November 6, 2001, locking into a contract through June 2030 at one of Europe’s richest clubs.

The reality has been less glamorous. Safonov’s rise through the PSG squad has pushed Chevalier into a secondary role, and the number 30 jersey hasn’t carried the weight anyone expected it would.

The irony is sharp: Chevalier saved a crucial penalty against Tottenham in the 2025 UEFA Super Cup, helping PSG lift the trophy. Now Spurs are one of the clubs trying to sign him.

Two very different destinations

Chevalier reportedly finds the Besiktas opportunity less attractive than other alternatives. Juventus has also been linked to Chevalier in separate reports.

No official comments have come from PSG or Chevalier regarding any of the reported interest. PSG’s stance on letting a €40 million investment walk away, potentially at a loss or on loan, will be the key variable in any deal.

What this means for the market

For Tottenham, adding Chevalier would represent a clear upgrade in goalkeeping depth and potentially a long-term starter. Landing a player with Chevalier’s pedigree — someone PSG paid €40 million for — could be a coup if the price is right.

PSG are unlikely to recoup their full investment if Chevalier leaves after just one season as a backup. That creates a negotiation gap: PSG won’t want to sell at a steep discount, but buying clubs know they have leverage because a benched goalkeeper loses value with every month he doesn’t play.
