Liverpool enters race for Francisco Trincão amid AC Milan interest
The Reds are targeting the Sporting CP winger as a potential Mohamed Salah replacement, but AC Milan's coaching connection could complicate matters
Liverpool have set their sights on Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincão, joining what is shaping up to be one of the summer’s most hotly contested transfer battles. The 26-year-old Portuguese international reportedly carries a release clause of €60 million, though reports suggest a deal could be struck for around €50 million.
Liverpool are actively rebuilding their attacking options following the departure of Mohamed Salah, and Trincão’s profile, a versatile winger with creative instincts and goal-scoring ability, fits the mold of what the club needs going forward.
What Trincão brings to the table
Trincão recorded 13 goals and 15 assists across 54 appearances for Sporting last season. Jorge Mendes is reportedly handling matters on Trincão’s end and has assured both Sporting and the player that a “massive” bid, one approaching the release clause, is coming soon. No formal offers have been submitted yet.
Trincão’s current market value sits at around €40 million according to Transfermarkt. His contract with Sporting runs until 2030, which gives the Portuguese club significant leverage.
The AC Milan factor
AC Milan have identified Trincão as a priority target. Milan’s manager Ruben Amorim previously coached at Sporting CP. Reports suggest Amorim’s interest extends beyond just Trincão — Milan are reportedly exploring a dual approach, potentially pairing a move for the winger with a bid for Sporting midfielder Morten Hjulmand.
Why Sporting might not budge until after the World Cup
Sporting CP are reportedly reluctant to part with Trincão before the 2026 World Cup. From Sporting’s perspective, waiting also makes financial sense, as a strong World Cup performance from Trincão could drive his price up further. With a contract running until 2030, Sporting are under no pressure to sell.
What this means for Liverpool’s rebuild
Trincão operates primarily as a right winger but can also play as an attacking midfielder. At 26, he’s entering what should be his peak years, and with a contract through 2030 at Sporting, whichever club signs him is investing in a player with significant runway ahead. The price tag, whether it lands at €50 million or climbs toward the full €60 million clause, represents a substantial commitment.
