Natus Vincere bids farewell to jL as CS2 star steps away citing burnout
The Lithuanian rifler's indefinite break highlights esports' growing mental health reckoning while NAVI promotes a junior player and navigates its fan token ecosystem on Chiliz
Justinas “jL” Lekavičius, the Lithuanian rifler who spent two years on one of the most storied rosters in Counter-Strike history, is stepping away from competitive play. Natus Vincere announced on July 8, 2025, that jL would move to the inactive roster to prioritize his well-being, citing personal reasons and burnout.
The departure is described as mutual. jL has indicated plans for a temporary break of roughly 3-6 months.
What happened and what comes next
jL originally joined NAVI on June 30, 2023, stepping into a lineup that has historically competed at the highest tier of Counter-Strike.
NAVI’s answer is Drin “makazze” Shaqiri, promoted from NAVI Junior to fill the vacancy. IEM Cologne 2025, one of the marquee events on the CS2 calendar, is approaching.
For an organization founded in December 2009 in Kyiv, one that has secured multiple Major championships across its history, roster turbulence is nothing new.
The burnout conversation esports keeps having
Burnout in competitive gaming isn’t a new phenomenon, but teams openly acknowledging it as a legitimate reason for roster moves is a relatively recent development. NAVI framing this as a well-being decision rather than a performance one is notable.
The crypto angle: NAVI’s fan token on Chiliz
NAVI operates a fan token through the Socios.com platform on the Chiliz blockchain. Fan token holders typically get access to polls, exclusive content, and community-driven decisions.
There was no immediate market reaction tied to jL’s departure. Fan tokens generally don’t move on individual roster changes unless they coincide with broader organizational crises.
NAVI competes across multiple esports titles, meaning the organization’s token ecosystem doesn’t rise or fall with a single game’s roster.
