Saudi Pro League’s spending spree continues as Al Riyadh signs Egyptian star Trezeguet, highlighting the kingdom’s broader investment playbook
The modest transfer fee belies a larger story about Saudi Arabia's capital deployment strategy that crypto investors should understand
Saudi Arabia’s Al Riyadh SC has secured Egyptian winger Mahmoud “Trezeguet” Hassan from Al Ahly, adding another international name to the Saudi Pro League’s rapidly expanding roster. The deal, reportedly valued between $1 million and $1.5 million for a two-season contract, is a relatively modest transaction by SPL standards.
Trezeguet, 31, had only rejoined Al Ahly in January 2025 for a reported fee of €1.6 million on a five-year contract that was supposed to run through 2030 or 2031. That means Al Ahly is letting go of a player it invested in just 18 months ago, likely at a loss when you factor in wages and the modest exit price.
Negotiations reportedly gained momentum around mid-July 2026. The Egyptian international, who contributed to Egypt’s 2026 World Cup campaign, becomes the latest in a growing line of notable players heading east to the Saudi Pro League.
The transfer itself won’t move any markets. No crypto tokens are involved. No fan tokens changed hands. No blockchain-based transfer protocol was used.
