Sergi Roberto becomes free agent after leaving Como
The former Barcelona captain departs Serie A club Como 1907 after his two-year contract expires, with no new move announced yet
Sergi Roberto, the versatile Spanish midfielder who spent nearly two decades at FC Barcelona, is officially a free agent. His contract with Italian Serie A club Como 1907 has expired, ending a two-year stint in Italian football.
Roberto joined Como in August 2024 on a two-year deal after departing Barcelona, where he had been since 2010. Como has opted not to renew the agreement, leaving the 34-year-old to explore his next chapter.
A Barcelona legend’s Italian detour
The midfielder came through the club’s famed La Masia academy and spent 18 years wearing the Blaugrana shirt, eventually earning the captain’s armband.
He made 245 appearances in La Liga, scoring 12 goals across all those seasons. Roberto won seven La Liga titles during his time at Camp Nou and lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy twice.
While primarily a midfielder, Roberto frequently played as a right-back, sometimes looking equally comfortable in both positions.
The Como chapter
Over the course of the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons, Roberto made 20 appearances in Serie A and scored once.
Como’s decision not to extend his contract was not entirely surprising given those limited minutes.
What comes next
As of mid-June 2026, no new club has been publicly linked with Roberto.
