Strategy launches $MSTR token on Solana via Sunrise gateway

The world's largest corporate Bitcoin holder just made its stock tradeable on-chain with zero fees and instant settlement

Strategy, the company formerly known as MicroStrategy that has essentially become a publicly traded Bitcoin vault, now has its stock tokenized and live on Solana. The $MSTR token launched on July 28 through the Sunrise gateway, letting traders swap the tokenized equity instantly and without fees on Solana’s decentralized exchanges.

The token was issued by Backpack Securities and is immediately accessible through DEXes and aggregators across the Solana ecosystem. Early trading volume hit $36 million within the first 24 hours.

What Sunrise actually does

Spearheaded by Wormhole Labs, the infrastructure layer debuted publicly in November 2025 and serves as Solana’s primary gateway for external assets, including tokenized equities. Sunrise provides native liquidity through its own DEX and partnerships with platforms like Jupiter, Solana’s dominant swap aggregator.

$MSTR isn’t the first tokenized equity to launch through this pipeline. Backpack Securities has previously issued tokenized shares of companies like Micron ($MU) and Robinhood ($HOOD), building cumulative trading volumes that now exceed $1.8 billion across its tokenized asset offerings.

Why $MSTR is different from every other tokenized stock

Strategy holds 843,775 BTC, valued at approximately $53.5 billion, making it the world’s largest corporate Bitcoin holder by a wide margin. The company acquired that position at an average cost of $75,482 per Bitcoin.

For DeFi-native traders, tokenized $MSTR could theoretically be used as collateral in lending protocols, integrated into yield strategies, or paired in liquidity pools, all things that are impossible to do with shares sitting in a brokerage account.

What this means for investors

For retail investors already active in Solana’s DeFi ecosystem, $MSTR offers a way to diversify into equity exposure without leaving the chain. No KYC-heavy brokerage onboarding, no waiting for market hours, no T+1 settlement. The trade happens in the time it takes to confirm a Solana transaction.

Tokenized equities still face regulatory uncertainty in multiple jurisdictions, and the legal framework around trading securities on DEXes remains a work in progress. Investors should also consider that on-chain liquidity, while growing, is still a fraction of what’s available on traditional exchanges, meaning large trades could face slippage that wouldn’t occur on Nasdaq.
