Patrick Witt to leave White House Crypto Council and pursue private sector role
Witt is the third senior crypto policy official to leave the White House in 2026, after David Sacks in March and deputy director Harry Jung in July.
Patrick Witt said he was leaving his government service grateful for the opportunity to contribute to President Donald Trump’s agenda, including efforts to strengthen the US defense industrial base and position the country as the “crypto capital of the world.”
As executive director of the White House Crypto Council, Witt worked to advance the administration’s digital asset policy and thanked Trump for his appointment, David Sacks for his mentorship, and colleagues across the administration for their support. He also acknowledged regulators and lawmakers for their cooperation on crypto legislation, specifically the GENIUS Act, which passed, and the CLARITY Act, which remains a legislative priority.
Witt expressed confidence that the US would enter a new period of technological advancement and said he was bullish on the country’s future. He added that he would share more about his plans soon and expected to continue advancing American innovation in the private sector.
