Bitcoin ETFs pull in $626M in three days as BlackRock’s IBIT dominates inflows

Institutional investors are piling back into spot Bitcoin funds despite a market sentiment reading of 'extreme fear'

US spot Bitcoin ETFs just absorbed $626 million in net inflows over three consecutive trading days in early August, with BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust doing what BlackRock does best: vacuuming up the lion’s share.

IBIT alone accounted for $479 million of that total. That’s roughly 76% of all inflows going to a single fund. The asset management giant’s Bitcoin product has now accumulated nearly $61 billion in cumulative net inflows since launch.

The numbers behind the surge

The three-day stretch included one particularly strong session that saw $244.4 million flow into spot Bitcoin ETFs in a single day, according to data tracked by Farside Investors. Bitcoin itself traded in a relatively tight range during the period, hovering between $64,744 and $64,920, with a brief spike above the upper end of that band.

Here’s the thing: this buying spree happened while the Crypto Fear & Greed Index sat at 25, a reading squarely in “Extreme Fear” territory.

Total cumulative net inflows across all US spot Bitcoin ETFs now stand at approximately $52.39 billion. That number represents the aggregate capital that has flowed into these products since they launched in January 2024, minus any redemptions along the way.

Spot Ether ETFs also caught a bid during the same window. Those products pulled in $60.9 million on the strongest day and $114.6 million over two days.

A rebound from a rough first half

The $626 million three-day haul is especially notable given the context. The first half of 2026 was a mixed bag for Bitcoin ETF flows. Periods of meaningful outflows punctuated the landscape, and volatility kept some institutional investors on the sidelines.

BlackRock’s dominance in this latest round of inflows isn’t surprising. IBIT has consistently been the preferred entry point for institutional Bitcoin exposure, largely because of BlackRock’s distribution network and brand trust.

What this means for investors

The contrast between institutional buying and retail sentiment is the most interesting signal here. A Fear & Greed reading of 25 typically correlates with retail capitulation, meaning everyday investors are selling or sitting out. Meanwhile, ETF flow data shows that sophisticated allocators are doing the opposite, adding exposure at prices they apparently consider attractive.

ETF inflows represent real demand that directly translates to Bitcoin purchases by fund administrators, creating structural buying pressure. If this pace held for a full month, it would translate to roughly $4 billion in net buying.
