Han Chang-joon, former Chief Financial Officer of Terraform Labs, could spend the rest of his life in jail for financial crimes, Montenegro’s police reported today. Due to the legal process, Han has been extradited to South Korea, where he faces many charges related to financial investment services, investments, and capital markets.

“J.C.H. was handed over today by NCB Interpol Podgorica officers and the Special Police Unit to the competent judicial and police authorities of South Korea for the purpose of conducting criminal proceedings for several criminal offenses related to fraud in financial investment services, investments and the capital market, for which a life sentence is threatened in South Korea.”

Han and Terraform Labs co-founder Do Kwon were arrested in March last year while trying to travel with falsified documents. Both received four-month prison sentences the following months.

While Han was “handed over” to the Korean government after serving his sentence in Montenegro, Do Kwon’s legal saga took a different turn. Both the US and South Korea have asked for Kwon to be transferred to their respective jurisdictions to face charges, but he successfully appealed against the extradition decision in Montenegro.

According to Bloomberg’s report, he may consider attending his trial in the US this March, though the ultimate decision remains pending.
