Tottenham defender Cristian Romero reportedly pushing for Barcelona move this summer
The Argentine international has publicly criticized Spurs' management and now has his sights set on Camp Nou, with Tottenham demanding around €50 million.
Cristian Romero wants out of North London, and he’s apparently made Barcelona his preferred destination. The Argentine center-back has emerged as a key transfer target for the Catalan club this summer, adding another chapter to what’s been a remarkably messy divorce between the defender and Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham has reportedly set a price tag of around €50 million for Romero. Barcelona, for its part, hasn’t submitted a formal bid yet.
The Romero situation at Spurs
Romero, now 28, has publicly criticized Tottenham’s board. The Argentine international originally arrived at Spurs from Atalanta back in 2021.
Barcelona’s defensive shopping spree
Romero isn’t the first Tottenham defender Barcelona has circled this year. Earlier in 2026, around May and June, reports indicated that the club had targeted Dutch defender Micky van de Ven. That interest apparently stemmed from stalled contract negotiations between van de Ven and Spurs.
The price floated for van de Ven was even steeper, somewhere in the range of €75-80 million. That deal never materialized into a formal bid either.
Competition and complications
Barcelona isn’t the only club interested in Romero. Inter Milan have also been linked with the defender, and Atlético Madrid’s name has surfaced in the conversation as well.
No formal bid has been submitted as of mid-July 2026.
