The token will maintain a one-to-one value with the Uzbek soum and will be issued against government securities.

Uzbekistan is testing a soum-pegged stablecoin called HUMO as a payment instrument in a pilot project led by the country’s National Agency of Perspective Projects and Central Bank.

Under the special regulatory regime, HUMO Digital LLC has been approved as a participant and will test the issuance, circulation and redemption of HUMO at a fixed rate of one token to one soum. The stablecoin will be backed by government securities.

Asterium will participate as a project partner, while banks and other businesses are expected to join the trial, with more than 20 merchants already ready to participate.

The pilot will connect banking, processing and blockchain infrastructure to enable HUMO payments for goods and services. It is planned to run for up to three years and will examine whether stablecoins can make business settlements faster, more transparent and secure, while allowing regulators to develop safeguards against potential risks.

The project follows a November 2025 presidential resolution aimed at further developing Uzbekistan’s financial services sector.
