Injective Meridian mainnet upgrade proposal passes with 99% support
The IIP-701 upgrade brings institutional-grade RWA tokenization and compliance features to Injective's EVM, with deployment scheduled for September 24.
Injective’s governance process just delivered one of those near-unanimous results that would make most democratic institutions jealous. Roughly 99% of INJ stakers voted in favor of the Meridian Mainnet Upgrade, clearing the path for what amounts to the blockchain’s biggest institutional play yet.
The proposal, designated IIP-701, introduces regulated token standards on Injective’s EVM layer designed specifically for compliant issuance of real-world assets. The upgrade is scheduled to go live on September 24, 2026, at block height 184,394,000.
What the Meridian upgrade actually does
At its core, the v1.20.4 upgrade is about making Injective a place where institutions don’t have to choose between blockchain efficiency and regulatory compliance. The new features allow token issuers to bake regulatory requirements directly into their assets on the Injective EVM.
The upgrade also unifies what Injective calls “MultiVM markets,” enabling seamless trading and settlement for tokenized assets across different virtual machine environments.
Meridian initiates early testing of private RFQ (request-for-quote) transaction flows. These are the building blocks for CypherOS, Injective’s planned privacy platform.
Beyond the headline features, the upgrade includes improvements to market execution mechanics, risk controls, and oracle reliability.

Building on regulatory groundwork
The Meridian upgrade doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It arrives roughly five weeks after a potentially more consequential milestone: Injective Institutional Services received SEC transfer agent registration, effective August 19, 2026.
The timeline of Injective’s recent development cadence tells a story of deliberate sequencing. The Injective Mint tool launched in July 2026, providing the tooling for token creation. SEC transfer agent registration followed in August. Now the Meridian upgrade delivers the on-chain compliance rails to tie it all together.
The 99% approval rate, while striking, isn’t unprecedented for Injective. The prior Vulcan upgrade also received over 99% staker support.
Why institutions care about compliance-native chains
Injective’s approach with Meridian is to make compliance a protocol-level feature rather than an application-level add-on. When regulatory requirements live at the token standard level, every application built on top inherits those protections automatically. Issuers don’t need to build custom compliance solutions for each deployment.
This positions INJ itself as a potential settlement asset for institutional RWA trading activity. If tokenized securities are being issued, traded, and settled on Injective, demand for the native token to pay transaction fees and participate in governance naturally increases.
With the voting window closed on September 22 and deployment set for two days later, the turnaround is notably fast.
