Robert Lewandowski, one of the most decorated strikers of his generation, has landed in Chicago to weigh a move to Major League Soccer. The 37-year-old Polish international is accompanied by his agent for direct negotiations with Chicago Fire FC, a club that has been chasing his signature for months.

His contract with Barcelona expires this summer, making him a free agent at arguably the most interesting inflection point in MLS history.

What’s on the table

Chicago Fire’s offer is reportedly a two-year contract with annual compensation in the range of $15-20 million, including bonuses.

Fire head coach Gregg Berhalter, the former US Men’s National Team manager, has been publicly enthusiastic about the pursuit. “He’s someone we want to sign,” Berhalter said, leaving little ambiguity about where the club stands.

The negotiations aren’t exactly new. Chicago Fire first engaged in conversations with Lewandowski’s camp back in December 2025, during the winter transfer window. Those talks fizzled without producing an agreement, and the club’s interest appeared to cool for a stretch.

Now, with Lewandowski’s Barcelona deal winding down and his free agency official, the Fire have come back to the table with renewed urgency. His arrival in Chicago on June 12 included what sources describe as promotional activities aimed at drumming up excitement among potential season ticket holders.

The crypto angle, such as it is

There’s no direct blockchain or cryptocurrency component to this transfer. No token deal. No NFT clause buried in the contract.

Lewandowski previously served as a brand ambassador for OANDA in 2023, a trading platform that offers crypto services alongside traditional forex. Chicago Fire, meanwhile, partnered with Socios.com in 2022 as part of the fan engagement platform’s aggressive push into North American sports.
