Polymarket US launches 5-minute crypto up or down markets

The CFTC-regulated app now lets US users predict whether BTC, ETH, SOL and XRP will finish higher or lower over a five-minute window

Polymarket US has rolled out five-minute up-or-down markets for four of crypto’s biggest names: Bitcoin, Ether, Solana and XRP.

The launch, announced on October 27, 2026, gives users of the CFTC-regulated app a much faster way to take a view on price direction.

How the five-minute markets work

The setup is simple. Each market asks one yes-or-no question: will this token’s price end the five-minute window higher or lower than where it started?

Users buy shares on the outcome they expect. If they call it right, the shares pay out. If they call it wrong, they don’t. It is a binary bet with a very short fuse.

The markets cover four assets: BTC, ETH, SOL and XRP.

Resolution is automated and relies on data feeds from Chainlink, the oracle network that pipes outside price data into blockchain applications. Specifically, Polymarket uses Chainlink’s 60-second time-weighted average price, or TWAP, to decide which side wins.

That rule has governed settlement since August 14, 2026. Polymarket frames the method as a way to resolve markets efficiently and transparently, without leaning on exchange spot prices that can sometimes mislead.

A format that has been building all year

The five-minute product is not appearing out of nowhere. Polymarket first introduced the format for Bitcoin in February 2026 and has refined the settlement mechanics since then.

The latest expansion follows a steady cadence. On October 15, 2026, Polymarket US added 15-minute, hourly and daily up-or-down markets for ETH, SOL and XRP. Twelve days later, the five-minute window arrived for all four tokens.

Polymarket US is a separate operation from Polymarket.com, the platform’s international arm. The US app is available in most states and operates under CFTC oversight through QCX LLC.

What this means for traders and the platform

The Chainlink TWAP rule is arguably the most important detail for anyone weighing whether to participate. Averaging over a full minute raises the cost of manipulation. It doesn’t make manipulation impossible, but it does make the outcome harder to hijack with one well-timed order.

For users, the practical advice is unglamorous. Five minutes is plenty of time for a market to do something unexpected. Treat these contracts as what they are: fast, binary wagers on short-term direction, settled by an averaged price feed rather than a single tick.
