About Chainlink
Chainlink is a decentralized oracle network that feeds smart contracts with outside information such as market data, application interfaces, and records from other blockchains. Independent node operators gather and deliver that data, which lets on-chain applications react to real-world events. Sergey Nazarov and Steve Ellis founded the project in 2017, with Ari Juels a co-author on the original proposal. Chainlink is not a base-layer blockchain, so it has no mining or staking consensus of its own; its security instead rests on economic incentives, with LINK used to pay node operators and back their service commitments. The LINK token is capped at 1 billion, and it also funds staking and other network functions.
