About XRP
XRP is the native token of the XRP Ledger, an open-source blockchain built for payments and value transfer, including cross-border settlement and currency exchange. The ledger launched in 2012, with early development led by Jed McCaleb, Arthur Britto, and David Schwartz, and Chris Larsen is often named in the broader launch history. XRP is not mined. The network reaches agreement through a consensus protocol run by validators that order and confirm transactions, rather than through proof of work. All 100 billion XRP were created at launch, and no more can be made. A large share is held in escrow by Ripple and released on a scheduled basis.
