About Blast
Blast is an Ethereum layer-2 network built on the OP Stack, operating as an optimistic rollup with native yield for bridged ETH and stablecoins. Tieshun Roquerre, known as Pacman, created it; he also founded the NFT marketplace Blur. The project launched in November 2023, and its mainnet went live on March 1, 2024. Blast's core design automatically routes bridged ETH to Lido and bridged stablecoins to the Maker DSR protocol, then passes the resulting yield back to users on the L2. Network transaction fees are paid in ETH, not in the native token. The native token, BLAST, has a fixed total supply of 100 billion tokens. Fifty percent is reserved for the community, with the rest allocated to core contributors, investors, and the Blast Foundation. BLAST functions as a governance and incentive token rather than a gas token, and is used for community incentives and ecosystem distribution. Blast is designed for yield-bearing DeFi activity on an Ethereum layer-2, letting users earn yield on bridged assets while remaining on-chain.
