SparkLend USDS borrowing surpasses $800M, hits new all-time high
The Sky ecosystem lending protocol saw a 64% jump in USDS borrowing over just 30 days, signaling accelerating demand for governance-priced stablecoin loans
SparkLend, the lending arm of the Sky ecosystem, just crossed a milestone that would have seemed ambitious a month ago. USDS borrowing on the protocol has blown past $800 million, setting a fresh all-time high after surging 64% in the past 30 days.
The numbers behind the surge
The $800 million USDS borrowing figure is part of a broader picture that looks equally strong. SparkLend’s total provided liquidity sits at approximately $6.8 billion, with active borrowings across the protocol reaching around $2.13 billion.
Total Value Locked ranges between $4.65 billion and $7.4 billion depending on the metric used.
The collateral driving much of this activity is Ethereum-native. Wrapped staked ETH, or wstETH, accounts for over $3 billion in supplied assets.
Why SparkLend’s model is attracting capital
SparkLend is architecturally a fork of Aave V3, but its economic model diverges in one critical way. While Aave uses market-driven interest rates that fluctuate based on utilization, SparkLend employs a governance-determined borrowing rate for USDS.

The protocol also benefits from Sky’s Peg Stability Module, which allows 1:1 swaps between USDS, USDC, and DAI.
Strategic consolidation to Ethereum
SparkLend recently made a notable operational decision, deprecating its Gnosis Chain deployment as of September 14, 2026. The move consolidates the protocol’s resources entirely onto Ethereum.
The SPK governance token, launched in June 2025, ties into this consolidation story.
One risk to monitor is the concentration of collateral in a single asset type. With wstETH dominating the supply side, any disruption in Ethereum staking, whether from a protocol exploit, slashing event, or regulatory action targeting liquid staking, would hit SparkLend disproportionately hard.
The protocol’s deep integration with Sky’s PSM also creates a dependency that cuts both ways. It provides excellent liquidity under normal conditions, but it means SparkLend’s health is tightly coupled to the broader Sky ecosystem’s reserves and governance decisions.
