About Gnosis
Gnosis is a decentralized ecosystem and blockchain project that started as an Ethereum-based prediction market platform in 2015 and has since expanded into infrastructure for asset management, trading, payments, and a dedicated EVM-compatible Layer 1 called Gnosis Chain. It was founded in 2015 as part of ConsenSys, and the ecosystem is now governed by GnosisDAO, where token holders direct treasury and strategy through on-chain proposals. Gnosis Chain, formerly known as xDai, uses proof of stake with delegated staking for sybil resistance and operates a dual-token model: GNO secures the consensus layer, while xDai is the gas token used for transaction fees. The native token is Gnosis (ticker GNO), an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. GNO is used for staking on the Gnosis Beacon Chain to validate Gnosis Chain, with a minimum of one GNO required to participate, and for governance voting within GnosisDAO. GNO holders use their tokens to govern ecosystem decisions including treasury allocation and strategic direction. GNO has a fixed maximum supply of 3,000,000 tokens with no inflation, and circulating supply was approximately 2.6 million GNO as of 2026.
