ChatGPT, Reddit and Roblox face new EU platform obligations
The services reported at least 45 million monthly EU users, triggering four months of additional compliance requirements under the Digital Services Act.
The European Commission said ChatGPT, Reddit and Roblox must comply with the European Union’s rules for very large online platforms and search engines.
The services have declared at least 45 million monthly users in the EU, qualifying them for the bloc’s very large designation under the Digital Services Act. They have four months to meet the additional obligations, Reuters reported.
The requirements include assessing and mitigating the spread of illegal content and reducing risks to minors and users’ physical and mental well-being.
The platforms must also address risks to fundamental rights, electoral processes and public security. The Commission can supervise compliance and investigate how the services function.

ChatGPT qualifies as an online search engine under the DSA, while Roblox and Reddit qualify as online platforms because they allow users to distribute third-party content publicly.
