The Ivorian winger could be on the move again after a turbulent year that included a loan spell at Monaco and a recent ankle injury
Ajax has reportedly entered negotiations with Sunderland over a deal for Simon Adingra, the 24-year-old Ivorian winger who has had a restless time since arriving at the Stadium of Light just over a year ago.
Adingra joined Sunderland from Brighton in July 2025 for an initial fee of £18 million, with add-ons that could push the total to £21 million.
Things didn’t exactly go to plan. Limited appearances at Sunderland led the club to loan him out to AS Monaco in early 2026. The Monaco stint produced modest numbers: 17 appearances, 3 goals, and 2 assists. Monaco passed on activating their permanent purchase option.
Adingra returned to Sunderland, a player contracted until June 2030 but without a clear path to consistent first-team football. His market value sits at approximately €22 million. An ankle injury has further complicated his summer.

Clubs including AS Roma and RB Leipzig expressed interest in Adingra during the summer window but appear to have cooled their interest at least partly because of the fitness concern. There are currently no credible sources linking Ajax to any transfer discussions involving Adingra.
With four years remaining on his contract, Sunderland hold considerable leverage and face no urgency to sell at a discount.
