While Barcelona steps out of the picture, Juventus has reportedly stepped in with something more concrete. The Italian club has held discussions with Goretzka’s camp and tabled an offer that includes a €7 million net annual salary along with a €10 million signing bonus.

He’s not short on suitors either. AC Milan and Atletico Madrid have both been linked with the midfielder. Even Olympiacos was mentioned at one point, though that link was quickly denied by his camp.

Goretzka is 31, but his final seasons at Bayern were complicated by reduced playing time and a semi-public falling out with the club’s sporting direction.

What this means for Barcelona’s midfield plans

Barcelona’s decision to publicly distance themselves from Goretzka tells you something about where their priorities lie. This is a squad that already features Pedri, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, and Fermín López competing for central midfield spots.

For Goretzka, the denial from Barcelona likely simplifies his decision matrix. Juventus appears to be offering the most tangible opportunity, with a competitive salary and Champions League football on the table.
