Houthis target Saudi oil supertanker in Red Sea

Yemen’s Houthi militant group targeted the Saudi Arabian supertanker Amzan while it was sailing through the Red Sea, in the latest attack on Saudi-linked shipping.

The Houthis said they fired a ballistic missile at the vessel, which can carry 2 million barrels of crude. Saudi tanker owner Bahri confirmed a security-related incident but provided no further details.

The attack occurred about 63 nautical miles west of Saudi Arabia’s Yanbu port, maritime-security consultant Marisks said. The group has threatened a blockade of Saudi Arabia in retaliation for a Saudi operation against Yemen’s ports.

Some buyers of Saudi oil have picked up Mediterranean cargoes to avoid the Red Sea, while Saudi Arabia has increased exports from Persian Gulf ports and offered barrels outside the Strait of Hormuz, Bloomberg reported.
