Lamine Yamal misses training due to discomfort, raising concerns ahead of Sevilla clash
Barcelona's 18-year-old star sat out the session at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, though the club expects him back quickly
FC Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal was absent from team training on March 12 due to what the club described as general discomfort. The timing is less than ideal, with a La Liga fixture against Sevilla looming on the schedule.
Barcelona indicated they expect Yamal to rejoin group sessions by March 13, exercising what they called “maximum caution” with the 18-year-old’s fitness. Some reports suggested the discomfort was illness-related rather than a muscular issue.
The broader fitness picture
Yamal has dealt with physical issues throughout the 2025-2026 campaign. The most significant concern came later in the season when Yamal suffered a severe left hamstring injury in April 2026 that ended his domestic campaign entirely. That injury cast a shadow over his potential participation in the 2026 World Cup with Spain, though Yamal has remained publicly optimistic about making the tournament.
Prior to this particular absence, Yamal had been involved in Barcelona’s Champions League campaign, including a draw against Newcastle. His availability for the Sevilla match was considered important for Barcelona’s La Liga title push.
