About Venice Token
Venice Token (VVV) is an ERC-20 utility and capital asset deployed on Base, an Ethereum layer-2 network. It powers Venice.ai, a privacy-focused generative AI platform that offers text, image, and code generation. Erik Voorhees, the founder of ShapeShift, created the Venice platform, which launched in 2024. The VVV token model and genesis supply were introduced in 2025. The token launched on the Base network on January 27, 2025, and does not operate on its own layer-1 blockchain. Instead, it inherits Ethereum's proof-of-stake consensus through Base. The primary use of VVV is staking, which grants holders a pro-rata share of Venice's API inference capacity. This makes the token function as an access key for AI compute rather than a traditional payment mechanism. Token holders can also earn protocol-level yield, access Venice Pro, and mint DIEM tokens representing API credits. VVV is explicitly described as a utility token rather than a governance token. At genesis, 100 million VVV were created. 50 million were allocated to the public, and the remainder was distributed according to the project's defined schedule. The token is the mechanism through which Venice provides private, permissionless access to its generative AI services.
