About Sentient
Sentient is a decentralized protocol for building a community-owned artificial general intelligence infrastructure called the GRID. The GRID is a modular network of AI components called Artifacts, which include models, agents, data sources, and tools. The project was developed and documented across late 2024 and early 2025; specific named founders have not been consistently identified in public materials. The SENT token launched on 27 May 2025. Sentient does not operate its own layer-one blockchain. SENT is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, and the GRID's coordination and incentive logic is built on top of Ethereum's proof-of-stake infrastructure. SENT is used to pay fees for Artifact-powered AI services, to stake on Artifacts as a curation and reward signal, to earn protocol rewards for contributions to the GRID, and to vote in governance decisions over parameters like rewards, treasury spending, and protocol upgrades. SENT has a fixed maximum supply of 34,359,738,368 tokens, equal to 2^35, making its base issuance non-inflationary. Approximately 65.55 percent of the total supply is allocated to the community through initiatives, airdrops, and ecosystem rewards. The protocol is designed so that developers, data providers, and compute suppliers receive economic rewards when their Artifacts are used within the network.
