About Monad
Monad is an Ethereum-compatible layer-1 blockchain built for high throughput and fast finality. Keone Hon, James Hunsaker, and Eunice Giarta founded the project in 2022. The public mainnet launched on November 24, 2025, alongside the native token MON. Monad uses a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism called MonadBFT, which achieves sub-second finality while maintaining full EVM compatibility. MON is used to pay gas fees, staked by validators to secure the network, and used to participate in governance. Monad is a general-purpose smart-contract platform supporting decentralized applications and onchain settlement. The total token supply is capped at 100 billion MON, with the full amount issued at launch and distributed according to a long vesting and unlock schedule.
