Manchester United leads race for RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba, priced at €60M-€65M
The French defender has attracted interest from Arsenal, Chelsea, and Barcelona, but United appears to be in pole position with a bid well below his €80M release clause.
Manchester United is pushing hardest to land Castello Lukeba, the 23-year-old centre-back currently at RB Leipzig, with the club preparing an offer in the range of €60M to €65M. That figure sits meaningfully below the defender’s contractual release clause of €80M.
Lukeba moved from Olympique Lyonnais to RB Leipzig back in 2023 for approximately €34M. If United lands him at the reported range, Leipzig would pocket a return of roughly 80% to 90% on their initial investment in just three years.
Reports of United’s interest stretch back to at least March 2026. Negotiations have reportedly been taking place through the player’s representatives.
United isn’t alone in this pursuit. Arsenal, Chelsea, and Barcelona have all been linked with the French international.
What this means for the transfer window
The gap between the reported bid range and the release clause, roughly €15M to €20M, represents the negotiation space where this deal will ultimately be decided. Leipzig has leverage in the form of that €80M clause and competing interest. United has leverage in the form of what appears to be the player’s preference and a willingness to move quickly.
